Solenoid Valves
Introduction:
Solenoid Valves are a device that converts electrical energy into mechanical energy. Pass the current into the armature coil to create an electromagnetic field in linear motion. When the solenoid is activated, the Solenoid valve controls the flow of electricity in hydraulic and pneumatic valve systems under control.
Types Of Solenoid Valves:
There are two types of Solenoid Valves used for all major Applications.
- Direct-acting Solenoid valves
- Pilot opened Solenoid valves
Direct-acting Solenoid valves :
This system’s main valve opens and closes when the solenoid operation is enabled. When passing the current into the coil produces current, based on the requirement, particular action is to be done.
When a current passes through the solenoid valve coil, the valves move to the closed position. The coil current cut pressure is released to open the valve. The Solenoid valve retracts to a normal position. The operation is repeated based on requirements.
Pilot opened Solenoid valves :
Compared to direct-acting solenoid valves, pilot-open solenoid valves are compact. It requires less energy to function. In open pilot solenoid valves, the valves work more efficiently at low power available conditions. Lower operating cost is one of the significant advantages of this solenoid valve type.
How to Select the Best Solenoid valve for your applications:
Major factors should be considered to select the best type of solenoid valves for your operation (or) functions.
- Types of valves port (2way,3way or 4 way).
- Operation position types
- normally open
- normally closed or Universal Operation
- Media
- Size and Structure of coil
- Pressure flow
- atmosphere condition
- Voltage range
- any special Functions.
Types of valves ports
2-way, 3-way, and 4-way valves are the most commonly preferred Solenoid valves. It may vary based on operations.
2-way valves:
It’s mainly used for one/off-operations. In the values, only two ports are available, inlet and outlet. These valves are used in quick response and for higher flow operation requirements.
3way valves:
Three port valves include an inlet, outlet, and 3rd port for other special functions.
4way valve:
Four ports valve include two inlets and two exhaust works. All ports are available in default positions. The major advantage of this type’s valve is that you can control each valve’s operation based on your requirements.
Operation Position type:
Normally open type
In valve operating conditions, the electric current passes the coil valve and moves to the closed position. This valve is mainly used for safety systems.
Normally Close type
In the closed position of the valve, you can pass the current to the coil to activate the valve and move position. These types are used for fluid flow control systems.
Medium
- What is going to the valve (Air, gas, Fluid)?
- What is the temperature of the product? (high and low temperature)
Size and the structure valve
- Inlet and outlet size of the valve,
- Highest flow capacity of Fluid.
-
Pressure flow
The highest psi pressure operation is performed based on the required condition.
-
Atmosphere condition
- what is the valve fixed?
- Atmosphere condition valve position. (high heat, cold, wind)
-
Voltage range
voltage range decided based on the required operation.
-
Any special Functions.
Any special action should be required for applications.
