It’s a distressing fact that a lot of people are overweight. I understand, because for a long time I was at least one. Being 5’6″ and pretty much 200 pounds isn’t a decent look. The nickname of mine among my friends was “Wombat”. For people who are not Australian (not almost all people can be very lucky!), a wombat is as a groundhog or a badger. Fat, round, slow moving and bad tempered. To be honest, it was not the nickname I would have chosen for myself. I constantly appreciated Leopard. Or Dragon. But I got Wombat.
It was not as if I didn’t try to lose weight. In fact often I did. A bit. For a while. However, not enough so anyone noticed. A 100 and 80 seven lbs does not look much different to one 100 and 90 two pounds. The Wombat lived.
I tried all sorts of diets & restricted eating regimes. The Atkins diet. The Pritikin diet plan. Higher protein diets. (Made me feel sick all the time). Very low carbohydrate diets. (Made me so fatigued I didn’t want to do anything but lie in existence as well as watch television). Fruit diets! They really got things going through the body of mine but unfortunately did not make me lose excess weight. Vegetarian diets. Some of these diet programs helped for a while. I lost a few pounds but eventually got bored of the sameness of the meals and rapidly put back on whatever I’d so hard earned lost.
